About me

Hi, I'm Emilie

Emilie

Hello, I'm Emilie, a Registered Children's Nurse, mum of two, and founder of Nurture Nurse.

Caring for others has always come naturally to me. I grew up in the Middle East with my parents and younger sister. I had a very happy childhood, full of sunshine, outdoor swimming pools, family life and a mum who made home feel warm and welcoming, cooking from scratch and planning fun activities. Looking back now, I can see how much that nurturing environment shaped me.

As a little girl, all I wanted to be was a mum. I constantly played with baby dolls and my toy medical kits, inspired partly by my auntie who was a nurse herself. As I grew older, I realised I wanted a career that combined both my love of caring for children and my fascination with biology, so training as a Children's Nurse felt like the natural next step.

I studied at the University of Nottingham, graduating with a Masters in Nursing Science before beginning my NHS career at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Over the past 17 years, I have worked in several London hospitals including Great Ormond Street, The Royal Brompton and King's College Hospital, specialising in children's respiratory, sleep and long-term ventilation care.

Throughout my nursing career, I supported children and families through some of their most vulnerable moments, but it wasn't until I became a mother myself that I fully understood how overwhelming the early weeks and months with a newborn can feel.

Why Nurture Nurse?

When our son was born, breastfeeding was more difficult than I had expected due to tongue tie and painful feeding, despite everything looking “fine” from the outside. During the pregnancy I discovered hypnobirthing and breathwork for the first time, which opened my eyes to the importance of emotional wellbeing and nervous system regulation in motherhood.

Our daughter's arrival brought a very different experience. During pregnancy, we had ongoing concerns about her growth and I often felt anxious and unsupported. A wonderful prenatal yoga class became a place of calm and connection for me during that time, and helped me realise how important it is for mothers to feel nurtured too.

After she was born, we struggled with feeding difficulties, tongue tie, jaundice and a hospital admission. I remember sitting there exhausted, emotional, physically recovering from surgery and trying to feed or express constantly while my tiny baby lay under phototherapy lights.

And I remember thinking:

If I am finding this hard as a Children's Nurse and second-time mum, how must this feel for someone experiencing it all for the very first time?

That thought stayed with me.

I realised that so often, once a baby arrives, the focus shifts entirely onto the baby's needs while parents are left feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and unsure of themselves behind closed doors. I wanted to create the kind of support I wish more families had access to: calm, compassionate, evidence-based care that nurtures not only the baby, but the parents too.

I became increasingly interested in the way different cultures care for mothers and babies after birth, from the nurturing philosophy of Chinese postpartum confinement to the holistic postnatal support often seen in France, where maternal recovery and wellbeing are viewed as an essential part of care, not an afterthought.

Those experiences shaped the foundations of Nurture Nurse.

Today, I live in the Cotswolds with my husband and two children, where family life is centred around nature, connection and slowing down where we can. Through Nurture Nurse, my hope is to provide families with the kind of calm, compassionate and evidence-based support that helps them feel truly cared for during the fourth trimester and beyond.
